Just In: The Janitor

The Gist: Crisanto is an ex-cop who had been assigned by the pnp head to eliminate the crooked cops who are primary suspects of a violent bank robbery.  
My Say: The janitor is a very intelligent action film. It contains a lot of metaphors and irony. An example of this is the brutal and effective nature of the hero as a hit man which contrasts his meek and submissive nature at work and at home. The action is also top notch. It makes up for its lack of explosions, car chases and cheesy lines by upping the ante on the violence. The ending is top notch, This movie is an effective commentary on our flawed justice system where everyone ends up as victims. If all the cinemalaya movies for this year is as good as this one, it will be a very good year for local cinema.

Just in: Trophy Wife

The Gist: Girl plots a complicated revenge on a guy by marrying his brother and setting him up with her sister. The plan also involves seducing the guy.  
My Say: Watching the movie unfold reminded me of "Wild Things" where the femme fatale triumphs in the end through her cunning. Unfortunately, plot twists piled up crushing the story under its own weight. The heroine ended up being rescued by her supposed victim. Too be fair, the plan was too complicated to begin with.

Just In: I Saw the Devil

The Gist: Seriall killer kills girl. Fiance goes after him and feeds the killer with a GPS device so he could beat him up at his leisure.

My Say: One of the better revenge films out there. Nice action scenes specially the swerving car. Also had very good setup and reversals. A little over the edge on violence though. Features the guy who played Oh Daesu from Oldboy too so expect a lot of badass.

Blast from the Past: Love of Siam

The Gist: This movie is a multi-layered family drama where two boys discover their feelings for one another.

My Say: When I first watched this movie, I hated myself for watching such a long gay movie. As time went on, the scenes in this movie kept playing in my head and I knew I have to write something about this great movie. This is the only I know that touches the subject of a forbidden first love. If you've never watched a gay teenage love story, I recommend you that you give this a try. The soundtrack of this movie is also superb.

Just In: Robot (Hindi 2010)

The Gist: A new superhero movie from Bollywood.

My Say: I like this. It reminds me of the Filipino superhero movies of Vic Sotto but with more silly dancing and outrageous wigs. I'd watch this as soon as figure out where I could get the English subtitles for this one.

My Say: I'm really excited to watch this film this coming Halloween, hopefully with a date. I just hope the Hit Girl wouldn't scare me too much with her foul mouth.
